Ascension through virtue and insight
In the game of Maha Lilah, a symbolic journey through the planes of consciousness, the arrows are powerful tools of transformation and spiritual growth. They act like flashes of insight or sudden bursts of energy that can catapult players to higher levels of understanding and being on several levels. Each of the ten arrows on the game board represents a specific virtue, a positive quality or a deep spiritual insight. Their realisation accelerates the path to self-knowledge.
The arrows symbolise moments when previously blocked or unconscious life energy (Kundalini energy) is released and flows upwards through the chakras. This leads to an abrupt expansion of consciousness. They indicate that the player has either mastered an important lesson, developed and cultivated a certain virtue within themselves, or experienced a leap in development through an act of grace. In contrast to gradual maturation through passing through each individual field, the arrows offer a kind of ‘shortcut’ – they are a sign that certain developmental steps can be accomplished more quickly through intensive practice, deep insight, or selfless action.
Harish Johari describes the arrows as expressions of positive actions and attitudes. They elevate the player above the entanglements of the respective plan and connect them with higher qualities of being. They are manifestations of dharma, right action and universal laws. Landing on an arrow means reaping the fruits of good karma and receiving the opportunity to significantly raise one's vibration.
The journey across the Maha Lilah game board is a metaphor for the process of individuation, the journey to the self. While snakes symbolise challenges, entanglements and the need to confront one's own shadow, arrows represent aspects that have already been mastered, virtues that have been acquired and moments in which consciousness is clarified and new horizons are opened up.
When landing on an arrow, it is important not only to enjoy the rapid ascent, but also to consciously perceive, reflect on and integrate the quality or virtue that this arrow represents. Each arrow is both a lesson and a confirmation: a confirmation of the path already travelled and a lesson about the qualities that need to be cultivated in order to progress on the path of awareness and ultimately attain cosmic consciousness.
